Games Hidden Behind the Curtain
EN.
If you sit on this Persian carpet, you might slip into my skin.
It is 1988. A nine-year-old child, lost in the ancient city of Isfahan, in the heart of Iran.
The schools are closed. The sky rumbles with Iraqi air raids.
But in front of him, a secret window opens onto another world: Burda fashion magazines.
After the 1979 revolution, these pages of color and dreams were banned in Iran. And yet, in his mother’s sewing workshop, a few copies survived intact, like forgotten treasures.
Turning these pages, with a curiosity tinged with fear, was a sweet transgression.
A gentle rebellion: brushing against a distant, radiant, and forbidden world in the midst of the thunder of war.
And later, walking through the streets of West Berlin:
the light, the colors, that pure joy that seemed to dance in the air.
